Statement

This shelf and the zines within it were made to reflect and address an/any individual’s interior biases, ranging from racism to islamophobia, from transphobia to homophobia, from fatphobia and beyond. Though research was done in all directions, and I intend to continue and refine this project moving forward, the first round of production has focused on gender and sexuality, bringing educational, progressive thoughts in conversational writing to anyone in the town of Bennington who may come across my spontaneous interventions, to be distributed shortly before graduation, or the shelf itself, which may also find a home somewhere accessible in town. The interventions will entail me randomly placing zines throughout businesses in town, without the owner’s knowledge or consent; the shelf will be a space of choice for folks to engage with this project as they wish. With continued research and time, I hope to expand this project beyond Bennington, to other urban and rural communities throughout the States.
