Nirmohi Belvalkar

Primary Objects (2021) is a series of precariously stacked and arranged porcelain orbs, layered with pastel slips, brighter underglazes, matte and shiny glaze, and a gold overglaze. I try to work with organic and architectural forms to create a contrast, and use delicate textures formed through processes of repetition of smaller, modular units. I use a mix of colors with different glaze surfaces, allowing me to play with my textured forms with another layer. These objects have evolved from a lot of experimentation with the aim of creating engaging surfaces through processes of layering and glazing. They are playful forms, to be re-arranged, rotated and re-oriented.
